BAKED APPLE DUMPLINGS AND SAUCE
INGREDIENTS

pared, cored, tart apples

3/4 tsp. cinnamon

cup sugar

tbsp. butter
DUMPLING
SAUCE INGREDIENTS
1
1/2 cups sugar
2
cups water
1/4
cup butter
1/4
tsp. cinnamon
1/4
tsp. nutmeg
1/4
cup cinnamon red-hots
PASTRY
INGREDIENTS
2
cups flour
2/3
cup shortening
1
tsp. Salt

tbsps. Water
DIRECTIONS
Cut
shortening into flour and salt. Add water. Mix until dough just
begins to cling together.
Roll
out pastry to 1/8" thickness on floured surface.
Cut
pastry into 6 square sections. Place an apple in center of each section.
Combine
the 1 3/4 tsp. cinnamon with the 1/2 cup sugar. Fill apple cavities
with cinnamon-sugar mixture.
Dot
with 1 tbsp (total) butter. Fold pastry over each apple firmly.
Place in baking dish.
In
medium saucepan, combine all sauce ingredients. Bring mixture to
rolling boil, stirring occasionally.
Pour
sauce in pan evenly around dumplings.
Baste
dumplings with sauce two or three times while baking/
Bake
at 375 degrees for 40 minutes
Remove
from oven and baste with sauce again.
Serve
warm with heavy cream
